What does a typical working day on client site look like for you?
I’m currently working on a Financial Crime Programme, leading a team of six BCS consultants to enhance the quality of information the Bank holds on their corporate customers to improve the effectiveness and quality of Financial Crime screening and monitoring processes.
In role as a programme manager, I can be doing any number of activities on a given day. This might be working with team members in the detail of their projects and workstreams, providing ideas and feedback to support them, representing the team in key programme meetings, managing stakeholders across the business and programme and ensuring awareness of our progress and dependencies! It’s certainly a challenging and constantly evolving environment which is one of the things that attracted me to consulting in the first place.
How has your career developed at BCS?
I joined BCS in October 2014 as an Associate Consultant and my time here has flown by! I came from Technology Consulting at IBM and had no financial services experience, so I met with a steep learning curve when my first role involved working directly with senior clients on a Finance MI process improvement role. I had all the support from BCS I could ask for and was able to get up to speed quickly.
Since then, my roles have been varied and provided me with the right level of challenge and constant growth opportunities, whilst always feeling supported. Throughout my time at BCS, I have had the opportunity to run a number of internal initiatives and shape the strategic direction of the firm within my Service Line, Programme & Change Delivery. I’m also member of the interview panel which I really enjoy.
Some highlights for me since joining BCS are the 2016 BCS Awards where I won the Consultant of the Year Award. This was a huge honour and a moment I’ll never forget. Another highlight is becoming a manager in 2017, which was a big step up and for me it’s easily the most enjoyable and rewarding part of my role today.
What would you say to someone thinking of joining us?
Consultants at BCS will find themselves given a significant level of responsibility, with the right level of support, in the client roles that they take on. For me, it’s important that anyone thinking of joining is passionate about financial services, has a desire to learn and is able to work collaboratively.
