What does a typical working day on client site look like for you?
I will always come in a little early to do some internal work ahead of dedicating my time to the client. This includes checking the BCS Hub for news and blogs, managing my BCS diary and completing tasks in my role coordinating the Rotation Programme for my Service Line.
I then switch to my work on a Big Data Analytics project for one of the largest global banks. Working in an Agile environment, I will participate in the daily ‘Stand Up’ to review progress and agree task for the day. My role then involves creating solution designs, writing tests scripts and building code to search for data across the bank.
Amongst the client work, I will often grab a coffee with my BCS colleagues beyond my project to discuss latest trends and Business Development. The day on client site ends with a check on my BCS emails and then , depending on the day, I may then head off to one of BCS’s many clubs and activities.
How has your career developed at BCS?
The level of clients you are exposed to at BCS early in your career is considerably different to your large consultancy. I have engaged directly with several C-Suite stakeholders since joining the Company; engagement that is usually reserved for Senior Management or Partner level. As a result, my ability to tailor my approach to such individuals has improved.
Given the thorough recruitment process, people know that once you are in you are the of the right calibre and the right fit. This means that you are quickly given a lot of responsibility, seeing myself go from doing analyst work to running a team of 8 within the first 6 months. Senior management dedicate a lot of time to guiding and coaching and this support, combined with a merit based promotion process, creates a true environment of collaboration.
What would you say to someone thinking of joining us?
BCS is undergoing an exciting change. It has recently become an Employee Owned company. This a unique structure in the Consulting industry allowing the Company to focus on its employees.
The impact of this is visible in the budget BCS puts into training and also the activities they provide outside of work. Whilst we work on projects where the hours can be long and the work challenging, the opportunities provided by the Company always make it worthwhile.
Our ranks are filled with top achieving individuals from competitive graduate schemes across Financial Services and Consulting and being surrounded by such a distinguished group of colleagues means you can learn from them every day.
