What does a typical working day on client site look like for you?
Each day I focus on managing my team to execute against our plan and scope and ensure that they have the support and guidance they need to produce high quality deliverables for our client.
During my working week, I meet regularly with our key programme stakeholders and clients maintaining a channel of communication in order to understand their challenges and priorities.
My current engagement sees me delivering a global training curriculum within the largest operational risk transformation programme in financial services, so naturally this comes with its challenges. A typical day is busy and stimulating, but I am lucky to have my BCS colleagues around to support me every day.
How has your career developed at BCS?
I joined BCS in April 2016 from the technology consulting practice of one of the Big Four. Despite having little experience in the field of change management and operational risk, here I am eight months later having taken on a significant people and training role, accountable for delivering a comprehensive operational risk training programme to 10,000 people globally, at one of the world’s largest banks. I’m leading a team and defining the strategy and deliverables for a large, far-reaching and complex workstream, which I think is genuinely fantastic. I personally welcomed the steep learning curve that has come with taking on this role and am extremely proud of what I have achieved so far.
Lack of experience is never seen as a barrier by BCS and I was given the opportunity and support I needed to step up to the role. I’d be doing BCS an injustice if I didn’t mention the terrific support and development network which has enabled me to take this on. The well thought-out, structured and individually-tailored line and engagement management at BCS is brilliant. Driven by an ethos of servant leadership; review, feedback and development is taken very seriously here. This means that you always know what you have to do to develop and you are therefore in the best place to achieve your potential.
What would you say to someone thinking of joining us?
You can expect significant responsibility on engagements, to own client relationships and deliverables and to build your skills and expertise, so BCS is a great place to shape your career and help you become a well-rounded, successful and high-performing consultant.
You will also be surrounded by extremely intelligent and ambitious people, who are great to learn from and who will push you. BCS is on a journey and it’s extremely exciting to be part of it.
