What does a typical working day on client site look like for you?
A typical day for a consultant doesn’t really exist! It’s the nature of the job to be varied and that’s one of the qualities aspect that drew me into this line of work in the first place.
Since joining, I’ve been placed on a number of projects which have all been different. When I was working on a Recovery Plan for a large global bank, my day consisted of everything from catching up calls with each of the regions involved to assess their progress and plan out the next steps to collating data for four different stress scenarios and helping to develop the stress testing model in Excel.
How has your career developed at BCS?
I joined BCS in January 2017 as an Associate Consultant and have since been promoted to Consultant and then Senior Consultant. I began my career as a Maths Teacher before moving on to an IT consulting company and then BCS.
I must confess, I didn’t have a lot of formal finance knowledge before becoming a consultant, so I was very keen to throw myself into all of the learning and development opportunities that BCS has to offer. I attended all of the 101s and masterclasses that are run on various subjects on Friday mornings, before heading over the client site. I’ve also completed my CISI Certificate in Investment Operations and PRINCE2 qualifications.
As my knowledge of finance has grown, I’ve also been able to contribute to training materials and lead sessions for my peers.
What would you say to someone thinking of joining us?
Community, collaboration and hard work. This really sums up BCS Consulting for me.
Everyone works hard together, in a friendly and welcoming environment. If you have a passion for problem solving, thrive on varied and challenging work, are interested in financial services and, on top of all that, want to work for a company who will support and encourage you to achieve your potential, then BCS may be the one for you!
