Open Banking Mobile App Delivery
In an emerging Open Banking environment, we were asked to lead the delivery of new mobile banking app for a leading UK Retail Bank.
The Brief
The aim of the programme was to deliver a new mobile banking app in the UK market, in order to position our client as a leader in the emerging Open Banking environment.
Our client looked to us to provide the experience and expertise needed to mobilise the programme, define the plans, and lead the delivery of the programme as a whole. We were asked to take responsibility for a number of key areas of the programme, from programme management (overseeing the entire delivery) to defining the customer journeys and user stories, to designing and implementing the operating model required to support the app once it’s live.
The Solution
Our team successfully partnered with the client to ensure the programme first delivered a proof of concept to staff, before then delivering a beta version to the UK market, whilst ensuring effective plans and agile ways of working were in place to allow the app to scale quickly (from a functionality and customer volume perspective).
The BCS team helped solve our clients hardest problems; from designing the customer journeys, to defining the user stories, supporting customer testing, and seeing the features through to delivery. In parallel we also managed the myriad of risk, compliance, and security stakeholders, including liaising with external legal counsel to ensure the bank was protected from a liability perspective. Separate workstreams also helped to negotiate contracts key third party suppliers, whilst we also designed and implemented the operating model required to support the app (across both front-line staff and digital teams). This crucial delivery support was also complemented by the experienced BCS team bringing its Open Banking knowledge and expertise to bear to ensure everything that was done was future-proofed for the upcoming industry changes.
The Results
Our leadership of the programme helped our client to successfully deliver a new Open Banking proposition to market quickly, enabling them to position themselves as frontrunners in the emerging Open Banking environment with the launch of their new mobile account aggregation offering.
The team is now focussed on helping our client mature and scale the proposition against an increasingly competitive backdrop, given the imminent CMA and PSD2 launch dates in January 2018.
